Healthy Eating Tips Part 2

This week we look at a few more healthy eating tips:

5. If you have some favorite dishes that you think should be eliminated from your diet, because they are unhealthy, do not abandon them without thinking carefully. You may be able to replace unhealthy elements with alternatives that retain the qualities of the recipe, but with healthier properties than the original. An example would be using low fat milk instead of cream, or a healthier oil such as olive oil or coconut oil.

6. If you love desserts, do not think you have to give them up. There are so many delicious desserts that are healthy, especially if you use fresh fruit liberally. Experiment with some exotic fruits if you do not already do so. My favorite breakfast would also make a beautiful desert: a mixture of melon, avocado, papaya and banana, chopped up and mixed with pure honey.

7. Keep lots of healthy snacks at home, so you reach for nuts, seeds or dried fruit instead of packaged junk foods. Mix them all up to make it interesting, or buy a ready mix from a health store. Once you get in the habit, those junk snacks full of chemicals will not appeal to you so much.

8. There is no need to become a vegetarian to be healthy, but it may be helpful to visit a vegetarian restaurant to get ideas for some meals without meat. The same is true in buying a vegetarian cookbook, or searching online for recipes.

9. Some people may try to make fun of you, and be dismissive of your efforts to eat healthily. Just smile politely and ignore them, and let your increasingly healthy look, and your obvious enjoyment of your new eating regime, speak on your behalf over time.

10. Only go to restaurants where there is a good variety of food, so you can pick healthy options. Avoid fast food outlets that only offer processed and fatty foods.
