What to Eat When on a Detoxifying Diet For Your Body
Many people are put off detoxification as they associate it with having a fast, or living on fruit and water for a week. However, that need not be so.
It is true that, if you are serious about detoxification, then fruit and water can play a critical role, but there is no need to starve yourself. It does make sense not to continue to bombard yourself with toxins during your detox, but there some foods that you can eat which will help your detoxification program. Here are some good examples:
1. Fruits
Most fruits will make a positive contribution to your detox diet; however, you need to ensure it is just fruit, not fruit laden with chemicals. With wide chemical usage on fruits, it is best to go for organically grown fruits if you can. There are some nutritious fruits that really are delicious, so you will not feel as if you are punishing yourself. Fresh apples, oranges, and strawberries come to mind, but there are many more. 100% fruit juices can also be used.
2. Vegetables
Fresh vegetables, again organic if possible, are equal to fruit in assisting your desire to have a successful detox program. All the familiar vegetables will be suitable, such as Brussels sprouts, spinach, broccoli, corn, and leeks. Bean sprouts are a useful addition if you like them.
3. Oats
Mixing oats with fresh fruits, especially for breakfast, are a great mix and can aid detox.
4. Beans and Other Pulses
Many kinds of nutritious beans and other pulses can be eaten during a detoxification program. Lentils, kidney beans, black eyed peas and others are fine, even if dried or canned in water.
5. Meat Substitutes - Tofu and Quorn
Some people find tofu and quorn useful for detoxification, and a great substitute for meat.
6. Fish
Fresh or frozen fish can play a vital role in your detox, but you do need to be wary of its source. Contaminated fish has become increasingly common in recent years, due to pollution of the sea.
Finally, drink lots of chemical free water during your detox, and use the USDA Food Pyramid to keep a track of your nutritional intake. The idea is to detoxify your body, not starve yourself.
It may also be a good idea to check your body Ph levels before and after the detox. Acidity (ie a low Ph below 6) is believed by some scientists and doctors to be one of the rot causes of the modern "diseases": diabetes, heart disease and cancer. A Ph level of 6.5 to 7 is said to be a healthy level. Cheap test kits are readily available online or in your local pharmacy.
