What Types of Food to Avoid When on a Detox Diet


In the last issue of Herbs For Health we looked at what type of foods you can eat, according to some experts anyway, during a detox diet. This time, we will consider the foods not to eat while you are in the process of a detoxification diet:

Meats

It is best to avoid poultry, such as chicken and turkey, and red meat. All processed meats should be avoided.

Salty Foods

Most snack foods and processed foods have added salts, and it is best not to consume these at all during the detox. So, out go salted potato chips and peanuts, and many other favorites; and salt itself of course.

High Sugar Foods

Really, high sugar foods should be avoided whether on a detox diet or not. They are a health hazard. However, if you have been eating them, then now is the time to stop. All sweets, chocolates, candies and most processed foods have sugar in them. Then there are jams, jellies and other popular high sugar foods. Do not add sugar to any drinks. Stick to water and pure fruit juice, preferably just water.

Dairy Products

No dairy products should be included in your detoxification diet. So it is goodbye to food items such as milk, cheese, cream, butter, and any other food containing, or derived from, dairy milk.

Other Foods and Drinks to Remove From a Detox Diet

Some miscellaneous items which should be avoided are: alcohol, coffee, tea, salad dressings, and soft drinks.
